Olmissum demonstrated their ability to compete against Europe's leading futsal clubs with an encouraging performance against Étoile Lavalloise at the Ribnjak Sports Hall in Omiš. The Croatian champions recovered from an early setback to dominate large periods of the match, creating numerous scoring opportunities against opponents who reached the Champions League semi-finals last season. Although the hosts were unable to complete the comeback, the draw represented an important opening result in a demanding group that also includes Sporting CP and Belarusian champions Stalitsa Minsk.

Frane Despotović's team entered the encounter knowing that a positive result against the French champions could significantly improve their chances of progressing. Olmissum had the advantage of playing in front of their home supporters, with Omiš hosting all three Group 3 matches during the main round. However, Étoile Lavalloise arrived with considerable European experience and quickly demonstrated their attacking quality, forcing the Croatian side to recover from a difficult start.

Early French Goal Fails to Shake Olmissum

The opening minutes produced an entertaining exchange of opportunities, with Olmissum immediately attempting to establish control. Romeo Sušac tested French goalkeeper Louis Marquet with a volley, while Finnish international Iiro Vanha narrowly missed the target shortly afterwards. Despite the hosts' promising start, Étoile Lavalloise struck first when Soufiane El Mesrar took advantage of a well-organised attacking move to score from close range in the second minute.

The early goal could have unsettled the Croatian champions, but Olmissum responded with greater attacking intensity. David Barbarić made an immediate impact after entering the match, creating two dangerous situations in quick succession. His first effort was saved by Marquet, while a clever pass towards Uroš Đurić produced another excellent opportunity that the French goalkeeper managed to deny.

Marquet quickly became the central figure in the visitors' defensive resistance. The goalkeeper produced a series of important saves against Barbarić, Duje Kustura and Sušac, preventing Olmissum from converting their territorial advantage into an equaliser. In the sixth minute, Sušac advanced through the centre of the court and unleashed a powerful effort towards the top corner, only to be denied by another outstanding reaction from the French international.

The Croatian side continued creating opportunities throughout the opening half, with Josip Juretić also testing Marquet from a difficult angle. Étoile Lavalloise remained dangerous on the counterattack, particularly through El Mesrar, who missed an excellent opportunity to double the visitors' lead midway through the half. However, Olmissum were generally the more threatening team, combining aggressive pressing with quick passing movements to repeatedly challenge the French defence.

Despite registering 12 shots on target during the first 20 minutes, the Croatian champions entered half-time trailing 1–0. Their inability to score was largely attributable to Marquet's exceptional performance, although several missed opportunities also highlighted the need for greater composure in front of goal.

Da Costa Scores Deserved Equaliser

Olmissum maintained their attacking approach after the interval, refusing to allow the early deficit to influence their confidence. The hosts continued pressing high up the court and creating opportunities through quick combinations, while Étoile Lavalloise increasingly focused on defensive organisation and protecting their narrow advantage.

Vanha came close to equalising early in the second half after attempting an inventive backheel finish from a pass by Ante Kovačević, but the ball travelled narrowly wide. Kustura also tested Marquet with an effort on the turn, while Đurić produced a powerful long-range strike that appeared destined for the top corner before the French goalkeeper made another impressive save.

The breakthrough finally arrived in the 30th minute following an excellent counterattack. Sušac advanced into space and delivered a precise pass towards Igor Da Costa, who finished calmly through Marquet's legs to level the score at 1–1. The goal rewarded Olmissum's persistent attacking pressure and sparked celebrations among the home supporters, who had watched their team repeatedly come close without finding the net.

With momentum now behind them, Olmissum pushed for a winning goal. Kovačević and Kustura both created promising opportunities during the closing stages, but the Croatian champions were unable to complete the turnaround. Their attacking confidence remained evident, with the hosts continuing to move the ball quickly and search for gaps in the French defensive structure.

However, Étoile Lavalloise nearly restored their advantage with approximately five minutes remaining. A dangerous counterattack created an excellent opportunity for Abdessamad Mohammed, but Olmissum goalkeeper Vinko Rozga produced a crucial save to preserve the draw. His intervention proved particularly important because it prevented the visitors from scoring against the run of play during a period when the Croatian side appeared the more likely winners.

The final minutes brought further pressure from Olmissum, but neither side managed to find a decisive second goal. The match ended 1–1, with the Croatian champions having registered 19 shots on target compared with just five from their French opponents. Those statistics underline the extent of Olmissum's attacking dominance, even if the final score did not fully reflect the number of opportunities created.

Valuable Point Against European Semi-Finalists

The draw represents a significant result for Olmissum because of Étoile Lavalloise's recent achievements in European futsal. The French champions reached the UEFA Futsal Champions League semi-finals during the previous campaign, establishing themselves among the continent's most competitive teams.

Facing opponents with that level of experience provided an important test for Despotović's squad, particularly given the demanding nature of the main-round group. However, Olmissum demonstrated that they could compete through disciplined pressing, organised attacking movements and an ability to create opportunities against a strong defensive opponent.

The encounter also continued an interesting history between the two clubs. Olmissum and Étoile Lavalloise previously met in European competition two years earlier, when their match ended in a dramatic 4–4 draw. Their latest encounter again failed to produce a winner, although the Croatian side could reasonably feel disappointed not to have secured all three points after creating the better opportunities.

For Despotović, the performance offered several encouraging signs. His players recovered from conceding early, maintained their attacking intensity and remained composed despite repeatedly being denied by an outstanding goalkeeper. At the same time, the match demonstrated the importance of converting chances more efficiently against elite European opponents, where missed opportunities can make the difference between victory and a draw.

Olmissum's defensive organisation also deserves recognition. Although the team conceded early, they limited the French champions to relatively few clear opportunities during the remainder of the encounter. Rozga's late save was a decisive moment, preserving a result that could prove important when the final group standings are determined.

Stalitsa Minsk Next in Crucial Qualification Battle

Olmissum's attention now turns to their next Group 3 encounter against Belarusian champions Stalitsa Minsk, who suffered a heavy 5–1 defeat against Sporting CP in the opening round. The Portuguese side, one of Europe's most successful futsal clubs, demonstrated their quality with a convincing performance that immediately established them at the top of the group standings.

The match against Stalitsa represents an important opportunity for Olmissum to strengthen their qualification prospects. With three teams from each group advancing to the Round of 16, a victory over the Belarusian representatives would put the Croatian champions in a promising position before their final encounter with Sporting.

Despotović's team will once again benefit from playing at the Ribnjak Sports Hall, where local supporters have created an energetic atmosphere for European futsal. The opportunity to compete at home throughout the main round provides an advantage, although Olmissum must ensure that the pressure of expectations does not affect their performances.

The encounter against Stalitsa Minsk is scheduled for October 29 at 8 p.m., while Olmissum will complete their group-stage campaign against Sporting CP on October 31 at 8:15 p.m. Both fixtures will be played in Omiš, giving the Croatian side two further opportunities to secure the points required for progression.

The group format means that every result carries considerable importance, particularly because the difference between qualification and elimination could depend on goal difference or head-to-head results. Olmissum's opening draw against the French champions provides a useful foundation, but maintaining consistency across the remaining matches will be essential.

For Croatian futsal, the team's performance against Étoile Lavalloise represents another encouraging indication of the sport's development. Olmissum have already demonstrated their ability to challenge respected European clubs, and continued progress in the Champions League would provide further recognition for Croatian futsal on the international stage.

Olmissum's 1–1 draw against Étoile Lavalloise was more than a respectable result against the French champions. It was a performance built on determination, attacking confidence and collective discipline that demonstrated the Croatian side's ability to compete with established European opposition. With two important home fixtures remaining, Despotović and his players now have an opportunity to turn that encouraging opening performance into a place among Europe's final 16 teams.
