Bad news from Maksimir hit Dinamo. Namely, during today’s training, midfielder Petar Sučić fractured the 5th metatarsal bone of the foot. According to the first estimates, Sučić will be absent from the field for at least six weeks, while complete recovery and return to form will take up to two months.
How did the injury occur?
According to the available information, Sučić injured himself on his own at the moment of a sudden change of direction, without contact with his teammate. Recovery, as usual with these types of injuries, will depend on the speed of individual rehabilitation, but returning to the field includes a phased return to training and physical fitness.
Implications for the team
This time frame means that Dinamo cannot count on one of their key players during a critical season. Among the numerous challenges on the schedule, the matches against Rijeka, Borussia Dortmund, Hajduk, Celtic, and Slaven Belupo stand out. In addition, Sučić’s absence jeopardizes Dinamo’s preparations for the big clash with Arsenal in the Champions League, scheduled for January 22 in London.
Possible solutions
Nenad Bjelica faces the challenge of filling an essential position in the team. Experienced Arijan Ademi, who has already played in tandem with Josip Mišić, is a natural replacement. However, an injury to any of them could complicate the situation further, so it is speculated that Dinamo could look for reinforcements on the market.
In addition to Ademi, the younger Branko Pavić, and the more offensive Marko Rog are options. However, none of them have Sucic’s role in the team, which could make it even more challenging to assemble the starting line-up in this crucial part of the season.
Dinamo now faces a big challenge. Whether he can adapt and maintain momentum in the fight for trophies remains to be seen.
