KITA FALLS LIKE A LOG, AND FABJAN THRILLS THE STOŽICE WITH A NEW KNOCKOUT
After nine exciting matches, the night’s highlight was the match between Miran Fabjan (6-3-0 before the match) and Michal Kita (22-15 before the match). Fabjan, FNC’s biggest star and crowd favorite in Ljubljana, was looking for his fifth victory in his sixth appearance under the organization’s auspices. His opponent was 44-year-old MMA veteran with an impressive career, Michal Kita. The Pole, who has been fighting professionally since 2006, has ten matches behind him in the prestigious KSW and victories against renowned fighters such as Igor Pokrajec, Aleksei Oleinik, and Michal Andryszak. In Ljubljana, he tried to stop the “hype” about Fabjan.
The atmosphere in the hall was at its peak when the fighters entered the cage. Fabjan’s sharp and focused gaze against Kita’s calm expression was the last scene before the match began. The fight started with loud chants of “Rocky, Rocky” from the stands, and Kita had a better opening in the first round. The Pole knocked Fabjan to the ground with the “double leg” takedown technique and hit him with several punches while getting up. However, Fabjan got up quickly and showed progress in defending against demolition, the result of working with the Car Dušan Silni team under the leadership of Nemanja Milošević, with the constant support of head coach Zelgo Galesić.
In the middle of the round, Miran successfully defended another takedown attempt, but he could not hit Kita’s chin precisely with his punches. The fight against Kita was much more demanding than against De Castro, despite predictions that it would be an easier challenge. Using a combination of wrestling and boxing techniques, Kita forced Fabjan to concentrate and adapt his tactics constantly. But after more than three minutes of fighting, Fabjan finally found his target – he started Kita with a left hook and soon hit him with a right uppercut. Visibly shaken, Kita frantically tries to knock down “Rocky”, but Fabjan sovereignly defends the knockdown attempt and ends the fight with blows from the top position, sending Kita into unconsciousness for a spectacular victory.
This was Miran Fabjan’s sixth appearance in FNC and his fifth victory. The performance in front of the home audience was critical to him because the next day (April 13) he celebrates his 40th birthday – he couldn’t have asked for a better present! From match to match, Fabjan proves his readiness for great things, and what is even more impressive is his constant desire for progress. Even though he is entering the fourth decade of his life, he shows that the best is yet to come – because Miran Fabjan is no ordinary fighter; he’s a unique phenomenon on the MMA scene!
Miran Fabjan, known as “Slo Rocky”, was highly emotional after the victory and celebrated his 40th birthday in front of the home crowd:
Three minutes is enough for each guest. When I land a shot, it’s the end for the opponent. Thanks to all my Trojans from Pula for making me a formidable fighter. That Rocky who enters the cage today would step on that Slo Rocky from Zagreb. Today, everything is about FNC; I am thankful to God that I can be the frontman of the main event. I was fighting for 500 euros, 1000 euros, in front of 500 people, 1000 people. I want to thank Forgi and everyone from FNC. I’ve taken everything the platform offers and am showing young fighters that they don’t need anything but FNC.
Francisco Barrio successfully defended his lightweight championship belt after choking Antun Račić with an arm triangle in the second round, and after the victory, he said:
Nothing, here, I’m thrilled. Everyone always underestimates me, and now I beat the legend of the Balkans. Am I a legend now? I didn’t fight for five years, and Forgač raised my career from scratch. I am loyal to FNC until the end.
