FABIO CANNAVARO NEW COACH OF GNK DINAMO

Fabio Cannavaro is the new coach of GNK Dinamo‘s first team. The club president and the Executive Committee, at their 15th session tonight, supported the decision of the Management Board and the sports director.

We thank the previous coach, Nenad Bjelica, for his contribution and dedication and wish him success in his future career.

Mr. Bjelica took over Dinamo’s bench in September this year and led the team to success in the UEFA Champions League. Unfortunately, the results in SuperSport HNL were lacking; they did not meet expectations, which is why the club’s management decided to change the sports director. Winning the HNL is an imperative focus of this decision to change the coach.

Unfortunately, the result is the most important rule in football, and in 11 rounds in the HNL we have achieved only 4 victories and we have one of the worst scoring streaks in the domestic championship. It’s never a good time to change a coach, but we decided to make this move now so that the new coach has time to convey his ideas to the players during the preparations and that everyone is ready to wait for the championship to continue. We want a turnaround in results in HNL. The new coach cultivates the style of play that we need to return to dominance in the HNL, builds the game and imposes dominance. It is a matter of great charisma that can convey rich playing experience, but also coaching, considering that he has behind him results in China where he was the champion. He is hungry for success and that is why he waited for the challenge of a club that belongs to the top and has the ambition to win titles. He knows our team and the entire HNL very well. He knows what his goals are before him in Dinamo and he is aware of the situation in which the club finds itself. The President of the Board, Zvonimir Manenica, said that the lack of results in the HNL forced the Board to accept the option of changing the coach.

The decision of the club management was that we have to make the necessary moves to stop this negative crisis, because we haven’t had these kinds of results in the domestic championship for a long time. Thanks to coach Bjelica for everything, he did his best, achieved great results in the Champions League, but the domestic championship is the club’s priority, and unfortunately there were no results. We have a chance for a new step forward for the club in Europe, but we can only do that by winning the title. We are aware of the risks and responsibilities, and that is why this was not a hasty decision, but rather a detailed analysis of which move is best to make without the daily pressure that is daily in Dinamo due to its great ambitions. That is why we waited to make a decision after the match with Varaždin and took time to make a decision in peace. We are aware of our responsibility and that’s why we are now looking exclusively towards the future in order to achieve all our goals. We are focused primarily on the transfer window, we are working very actively on it, but we do not bid on names until it is officially over. We made it imperative that most of the reinforcements be agreed as soon as possible so that they could be with the team as soon as possible and work with the new coach and other teammates. We presented the financial framework to the Executive Board and the opportunities that lie ahead. A challenging continuation awaits us, in which the most important thing is to enable the players and the new coach to have calm and quality preparations in order to achieve the most important goal, which is the defense of the championship title – Manenica, The President of the Board

Fabio Cannavaro will officially be presented to the first team at the meeting on January 3rd. I congratulate Mr. Cannavaro on his new position and wish him luck and success on the Dinamo bench.
